Our place is pretty well appointed, but there are some items you'll need to bring along yourself:
Bring your beach towels, boards, umbrellas, and other gear for a day at the beach. If there are surf boards or body boards on the racks in the Games Room then you are welcome to use them. You can also hire boards, wetsuits, flippers and snorkels at Island Surfboards right next to Smiths Beach.
Your favourite condiments for cooking. You are welcome to use the sauces and seasonings you find in the pantry, but we can only guarantee salt, pepper and oil will be stocked each time. We can't promise, but there is a good chance you will find the sauces (BBQ, tomato, soy) and spices (onion, garlic, chilli) we keep for our family getaways.
Firewood, including kindling and starters if you'd like to make use of the inside fireplace or outside firepit (if season allows). We like to keep a supply of sticks and logs behind the shed which you are free to use, but we cannot guarantee what will be available.
Your pet's favourite bed, bowl, lead and toys to keep them comfortable, and plenty of their waste bags of course.
Especially with younger children, please be careful and always test the temperature before getting under running hot water - it might be a little hotter than you are used to.
We do share this little pocket of paradise with the local wildlife, including wallabies, bandicoots and potoroos. They’re part of the charm, but they can also be unpredictable, especially at dawn and dusk, so please take extra care on the roads.
You might see some of the wildlife around our yard, and some of them like to dig! Be careful of any holes, and please fill them in if you see them to avoid any injuries.
If bringing a dog along for the trip, be sure to keep them on a lead where appropriate to protect the local wildlife - check the guidance and signage to avoid receiving fines.
You can keep an eye on the weather via the BOM radar to see when the surf's up, or when the tide is perfect for fishing. The Bass Coast Emergency Dashboard will show fire warnings, road closures and other alerts. Phillip Island has bushfire-prone zones, so always check the CFA website before lighting any fires to make sure it's safe to do so.
